OVER/UNDER: The Bleed Machine
I'm supposed to interview several people over the next few weeks: Luke Gearing, Sam Sorensen, Christian Kessler, hopefully several of the other bosses and players. That's always been my plan: to contrast my experience in OVER/UNDER to "traditional" Cataphracts (itself a relatively new work in progress), and Sean McCoy's Mothership itself. I figure it'd be a delight to debrief my very serious, wargame-minded players about this very serious wargame, perhaps touching upon its light RP elements. You know, as an afterthought.
The reality is: I'm a grown adult woman who has cried three nights of the last month, jumped from her chair like a sports, felt genuine betrayal, and ultimately poured more earnest effort and passion into this game than any other competitive experience in which I ever participated. I placed third in the overall leaderboard, and when Sam typed out my name, it genuinely felt like I'd accomplished something that would change my life. In that moment, the immersion, the feeling of play, was unlike anything I could have imagined a month ago, when I let my buddy cajole me into trying out Cataphracts in Space. I'll have much, much more to say later, but I want to hear from you: Tell me your deepest cases of "Bleed", or over-immersion, you've ever experienced in a game. I'm KattKirsch on Discord, and I truly look forward to speaking to you soon. More to come.
